Artist's Statement
My work is made from porcelain clay and I am very much influenced by qualities like whimsy, humour and eccentricity. I love to play, get a rush from the excitement of the challenge and find the process of creating therapeutic. In the past my main interest was in designing and developing dinner ware and functional pottery. However, nowadays I produce a greater number of decorative and sculptural pieces which are hand formed. Every creation is hand painted with under glaze or slip and covered in a clear glaze. Often times, I employ the use of over glazes and/or lustre to the surface as well. This process can take as many as four firings to complete. Although my approach can be complicated and labour intensive, the satisfaction that I feel upon completion outweighs the complications.
