Artist's Statement
My work in ceramics is focused on primitive hand-built, smoke-fired pieces. I think of myself as a “naive” potter because I am, for the most part, self-taught. Due to the lack of formal training, I have an uninhibited and unrestricted approach to clay. Within the limits of hand-building techniques there is an endless range of design possibilities to explore. The magical results of the smoke-firing process constantly surprises and delights me!
